L\u00fcbeck, 24. Juni 2009 \u2013 Um 10:00 Uhr sind 18 Fahrer zur Grenzsteintrophy, einer 1.250-km-Mountainbike-Tour, gestartet. Die Grenzsteintrophy ist eine \u201eSelbstversorgerfahrt\u201c, die zum 20. Jubil\u00e4um des Mauerfalls entlang des einstigen innerdeutschen Grenzstreifens bis nach Mittelhammer im Vogtland f\u00fchrt. Die Selbstversorger-Regeln des Ultra-Marathons sind einfach: keine Begleitfahrzeuge, keine fremde Hilfe, keine Vorausplanung; alles, was die Radsportler auf der Strecke ben\u00f6tigen, m\u00fcssen sie selbst transportieren oder unterwegs kaufen. Und noch etwas gibt es bei der Grenzsteintrophy nicht: Zeitdruck. \u201eDie Trophy ist kein Rennen; wir wollen Solidarit\u00e4t unter den Teilnehmern statt Konkurrenz\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Mitorganisator Gunnar Fehlau. \u201eDoch eine Touristikveranstaltung ist diese Fernfahrt auch nicht, das liegt an der Streckenf\u00fchrung und auch an der politischen Dimension der Strecke.\u201c<\/p>\n

Die einstige Westgrenze des Ostblocks, eine verminte und mit Wacht\u00fcrmen gesicherte Schneise in der Landschaft, ist l\u00e4ngst zu einem verwilderten Gr\u00fcnstreifen geworden \u2013 befahrbar nur \u00fcber den holperigen Kolonnenweg der DDR-Grenzer und \u00fcberwucherte Naturpfade. Eine unwegsamere Strecke dieser L\u00e4nge findet sich republikweit kein zweites Mal; damit kn\u00fcpft Europas erste Selbstversorgerfahrt an legend\u00e4re Events wie dem 4.000 Kilometer langen \u201eGreat Divide Race\u201c von Kanada nach Mexico an.<\/p>\n

Ab dem 30. Juni d\u00fcrften die ersten Fahrer am Ziel in Mittelhammer eintreffen. Dort ist jeder ein Gewinner, der sich in einer Gastst\u00e4tte nahe des ehemaligen Dreil\u00e4nderecks BRD\/DDR\/CSSR in das goldene Buch eintr\u00e4gt \u2013 eine Wertung gibt es bei der Grenzsteintrophy n\u00e4mlich ebenso wenig wie ein Zeitlimit. Auch Fahrer, die lange nach dem 24. Juni in L\u00fcbeck auf die Reise gehen, werden sich im Vogtland so als erfolgreiche GST-Teilnehmer f\u00fchlen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n

The L\u00fcbeck Priwall was the starting point of the 1250 kilometre ride along the former border between Western and Eastern Germany. Each finisher will be a victor in his own right.<\/strong><\/p>\n

L\u00fcbeck, June 24th 2009 \u2013 At ten o\u2019clock, the riders of the Grenzsteintrophy (boundary stone trophy) have set off. The Grenzsteintrophy is a self-support ride, leading along the former border between the two German States to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall. The finish line is situated in Mittelhammer in the German region of Vogtland. The self-support rules of the ultra marathon ride are simple: no assistance vehicles, no outside help, no advance planning. Everything the cyclists need on their way has to be carried by them or bought along the way. Another thing the Grenzsteintrophy does not know is time pressure. \u201eThe trophy is no race, we want solidarity among the riders, not competition\u201c says co-organizer Gunnar Fehlau. \u201eAt the same time, this is no cyclotourism ride, taking into account the routing of the Grenzsteintrophy and the political dimension of the course.\u201c<\/p>\n

The former western border of the Eastern Block, once a death strip studded with landmines and watchtowers, has since then changed into a green, overgrown corridor, that can only be ridden through via the GDR soldier\u2019s path and muddy dirt tracks. A route as impassable as this won\u2019t be found a second time in the whole of Germany, thus, the first European self-support ride is tied up with legendary events like the 4000 kilometre ride \u201eGreat Divide Race\u201c from Canada to Mexico.<\/p>\n

The first riders are expected at Mittelhammer around the 30th of June. Every one of them will be a winner as he enters his name into the golden book displayed in a nearby public house. After all, there\u2019s neither a classification nor a time limit. Even riders setting off at L\u00fcbeck long after the official start can see themselves as successful Grenzsteintrophy finishers when they arrive at the Vogtland.<\/p>\n
